About Meg

Hi there!  I’m Meg and I want to thank you for visiting my blog, Life in Bloom.  This blog is an eclectic place where I share my thoughts, reflections, and life lessons as I figure out what it means to bloom where I’m planted.  I’m really excited that you’ve taken time to visit my little corner of the interwebs, and I hope you’ll get to know me better through my posts!

I’m a Pittsburgh girl living in Durham, NC.  I am currently working on a Master of Divinity degree at Duke University.  I relocated to the South after I graduated from Allegheny College in 2008.  After spending two years working for a university in South Carolina planning community service and service-learning programs for students, I relocated to North Carolina to begin my seminary education.  Though I take pride in being a native of the Steel City, I plan to return to South Carolina after completing my M.Div.

I’m a Christian and my faith is the center of everything I do.  I’ve discerned a calling to ordained ministry, and I hope to serve in the local church or in collegiate ministry after completing my Master of Divinity degree.  I’m currently a certified candidate for ordained ministry as an elder in the South Carolina Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.

In addition to being a full time student, I also intern with Duke Wesley Fellowship, the United Methodist campus ministry at Duke University.  In my spare time, I enjoy teaching group fitness classes through Duke University Recretaion.  I’m certified to teach Turbo Kick [cardio kickboxing choreographed to hip hop music] and PiYo [Pilates-Yoga fusion].  I primarily teach Turbo Kick and I absolutely love it!

My passion is service, and I dedicated two years to educating college students about social injustices and finding ways to help combat them.  I find no greater joy than to bring a smile to the face of someone in need.  Volunteering in homeless shelters in New York City, helping rebuild the Gulf Coast after Hurricane Katrina, and bringing aid to my local community through my work on homeless coalitions has helped shape who I am and how I view my faith.  My times abroad–as a student studying in France and a volunteer in some of the poorest regions of Nicaragua and Haiti–have not only formed my world views but also helped me understand how we’re all in this together.

I am a sports fanatic, and it is so wonderful to be at Duke and cheering on my Blue Devils at every home basketball game!  I’m also a die hard fan of the Steelers, Penguins, and Pirates (yes, even the Pirates!).  I bleed black and gold, and am so thankful to be a born and bred Pittsburgher.  I love all things about the city of Pittsburgh, and know that no matter how far I go, it will always be home.
