Headed to the Holy Land.

I feel like I’ve been given so many wonderful opportunities lately. Every day I’m thankful to study at Duke Divinity School and be part of such an amazing community here. I absolutely love interning at Duke Wesley Fellowship and learning from all of the students involved with the campus ministry. And I’m thrilled to go back to Exploration this year, representing Duke Divinity and serving as a small group leader at the conference.
But there’s one opportunity coming up that I am absolutely ecstatic about. I’ve recently been selected as one of 19 seminary students from across the United States to attend the World Methodist Evangelism Institute in the Holy Land this year. Here are some details about what I’ll get to do at the World Methodist Evangelism Institute:
Interaction With World Methodist Leaders. Providing the opportunity for delegates to daily interact with national and international Methodist and Wesleyan Bishops, Heads of Churches, Superintendents, Presiding Elders, Pastors, evangelists, missionaries, and lay leaders and to learn from them. We expect about 200 participants, many coming with great excitement from around the world.
Pilgrimage to Galilee, Bethlehem and Jerusalem. Providing the opportunity for delegates to daily visit Holy Land sites – spending a day in Galilee, visiting the refugee camps as well as visiting the Holy Land sites in Bethlehem and in Jerusalem.
Involvement of Palestinian and Israeli Christians. Providing the opportunity for delegates to hear from Palestinian Christians as well as Israeli Christians during the seminar. We look forward to both Palestinian and Israeli Christians fully participating in the seminar.
Focus on the Theme for “Shalom 2012”. Providing the opportunity for delegates to daily focus on the theme: “Good News of Peace to All Creation: That The World May Know Jesus Christ.” Hear from world leaders, including persons from the Holy Land, who will speak on this theme in the name of Jesus Christ.
I am so incredibly thrilled. And, of course, I’ll be blogging about the whole thing! I actually think I may post some video blogs about the experience. I’m not the greatest with vlogging, but I might give it a shot. When I came back from Haiti, there was so much I wanted to share but I just couldn’t seem to get it all written down. I’m hoping to record something small everyday and then upload it when I get back to the States.
I’ve wanted to go to the Holy Land for so long, and it will be exciting to achieve a goal on my bucket list! :) But most of all, I feel incredibly humbled and blessed to have the opportunity to learn about evangelism in the same place where my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was for his earthly ministry.
As always, stay tuned. I can’t wait to share all of the details with y’all!
How many items have you crossed off of your bucket list? Are any of them related to travel? Leave a response in the comment section!
